Flowers/Plants
I suppose flowers and plants could be considered still life, but I don't think about them in the same ways. While not divorced from emotion, the still lifes are more analytical. Flowers are for many, wrapped up in notions of beauty and decoration. I have no problem with that, but it is people like Vincent Van Gogh, Schiele (again) and Jim Dine who have influenced my thinking about what they can be as expressive vehicles.
